Only in God Prayer Blog - 24 Mar 2021 Our Lenten Journey - Day 3

The times we are living through have been foretold both by Our Blessed Mother and in the Holy Word of God. For the second time this writer has decided to stop commenting on the issues of the day and concentrate on prayer. The situation has gone past anything I can do to change it and there is always the danger of scandal.

This column will concentrate on prayer including the Holy Rosary (see below) given the fact that we place our faith on God and His Son Jesus Christ and as He requested trust Him and hand our problems, our troubles, over to Him.

Join us in our journey.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Let us pray

O Jesus I Surrender myself to You, You take over. Amen

Today we continue our lenten journey where we reflect on the Stations or the Way of the Cross following Our Lord's final journey in this life leading to His death on a Cross.

Each day we will reflect on a station (two on Good Friday) pray and share reflections of Mary.

Our way of course has a triumphant ending on the final day of our journey when on Easter Sunday we reflect on the lesser known Station - the Resurrection of Jesus

Preparatory Prayer

My Lord Jesus Christ, You made this journey to die for me with love unutterable, and I have so many times unworthily abandoned You; but now I love You with my whole heart, and because I love You, I repent sincerely for ever having offended You. Pardon me, my God, and permit me to accompany You on this journey. You died for love of me; I wish also, my beloved Redeemer, to die for love of You.

My Jesus, I will live and die always united to Thee.

3 Jesus falls the first time

We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.

Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

Reflection:

Consider the first fall of Jesus. Loss of blood from the scourging and crowing with thorns had so weakened Him that He could hardly walk; and yet He had to carry that great load upon His shoulders. As the soldiers struck Him cruelly, He fell several times under the heavy cross.

Prayer

My beloved Jesus, it was not the weight of the cross but the weight of my sins which made You suffer so much. By the merits of this first fall, save me from falling into mortal sin.

I love Thee, my beloved Jesus; I love Thee above all things; I repent with my whole heart of having offended Thee. Never permit me to separate myself from Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee always; and then do with me what Thou wilt.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father.

Jesus, for Thee I live, Jesus, for Thee I die, Jesus, I am Thine in life and in death. Amen.

Reflection of Mary

Christ above in torment hangs

She beneath beholds the pangs

of her dying, glorious Son

I can barely express to you what it was like to see my Son fall under the weight of that cross. Everything within me wanted to make them stop. This was already too much. But, there was nothing I could do but watch him lay on the ground.

Of course, I now know that if he was to enter completely into our lives, he would have to surrender to the crushing weight of the burdens so many in their world suffer. All the people of the earth who are overcome by unfair burdens will always know that, laying there on the ground, Jesus knew and would always understand their powerlessness. Unable to get himself up, he entered into and forever understands our fatigue and whatever unfairly defeats us.

I understand your sorrow and feeling of guilt at reflecting upon my Son’s way to Calvary. Please, just be grateful. My Son simply wants us to remember how he loved then and loves us now. This is all about his mercy and the gift of life we have in him.

MORNING PRAYER

God of My Life

I welcome this new day,

It is Your gift to me,

a promise of resurrection.

Amen

Today we celebrate

Wednesday of the 5th week of Lent

optional commemoration

of Saint Macartan, Bishop (-506)

Mt4:4

Man does not live on bread alone,

but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

The Word of God

John 8:31-42 - If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed

To the Jews who believed in him Jesus said:

‘If you make my word your home

you will indeed be my disciples,

you will learn the truth

and the truth will make you free.’

They answered, ‘We are descended from Abraham and we have never been the slaves of anyone; what do you mean, “You will be made free”?’ Jesus replied:

‘I tell you most solemnly,

everyone who commits sin is a slave.

Now the slave’s place in the house is not assured,

but the son’s place is assured.

So if the Son makes you free,

you will be free indeed.

I know that you are descended from Abraham;

but in spite of that you want to kill me

because nothing I say has penetrated into you.

What I, for my part, speak of

is what I have seen with my Father;

but you, you put into action

the lessons learnt from your father.’

They repeated, ‘Our father is Abraham.’ Jesus said to them:

‘If you were Abraham’s children,

you would do as Abraham did.

As it is, you want to kill me

when I tell you the truth

as I have learnt it from God;

that is not what Abraham did.

What you are doing is what your father does.’

‘We were not born of prostitution,’ they went on ‘we have one father: God.’ Jesus answered:

‘If God were your father, you would love me,

since I have come here from God;

yes, I have come from him;

not that I came because I chose,

no, I was sent, and by him.’

“I will not allow myself to be so absorbed in the whirlwind of work as to forget about God. I will spend all my free moments at the feet of the Master hidden in the Blessed Sacrament.”

Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska:

Divine Mercy in My Soul

Each day I pray that the Lord

will bless you and keep you.

May He show His face to you

and have mercy.

May He turn His countenance to you

and give you peace.

The Lord bless you!

Amen.

Always remember - Jesus loves you.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in our hour of conflict. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.

The Holy Rosary

Our Blessed Mother explained to us what would happen in the World and in the Church if people continued to turn from God. One of the things she asked us to do was to say the Rosary everyday. Please find a few minutes today to fulfil her request.

Today we pray

The Glorious Mysteries

Only in God is my soul at rest. In Him comes my salvation.

We finish as we begun

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
